Freshman Katie Frye paced the Morehead State rifle team with an 1159 combined score in her first collegiate match, while junior Alexa Potts fashioned a team-best 589 in air rifle as the Eagles opened the 2018-19 season at North Georgia Saturday.
Morehead State totaled a 4,624 team aggregate score. North Georgia's total will be added once the Nighthawks finish competition Sunday against Georgia Southern.
Frye had a team-best 580 smallbore score to go along with a 579 air total. Seven of the nine shooters carded 580 or better air scores. Junior Karly Potts finished with a 587, while freshman Erin Diehl had a 585. Senior Brandon Bryer and sophomore Ryan Hinson shot 582 both on the air range.
In smallbore, Bryer was just behind Frye with a 572.
Alexa Potts finished second on the team with an 1156 combined score.
MSU returns home next weekend to host UT Martin for two dual matches, coming on Saturday and Sunday.
