Presidential search at MCTC on hold

MCTC

The search for a new president at Maysville Community at Technical College has been cancelled for the time being.

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System issued a release last week saying the search has been cancelled following internal deliberations, but will be reopened at a future date.  Russ Ward was appointed to the interim position in July last year and has held the role ever since.

Ward had expected to hold the job for a few months before a new president was named, but like with most things, the pandemic threw a wrench into that plan.  A big part of his focus at the helm has been on pandemic mitigation, and addressing the drop in enrollment felt throughout postsecondary education.

However, Ward says enrollment at MCTC is up 5% from this time last year.  He says that’s largely due to high school students in dual-credit courses and the college offering free tuition for new students in the spring.

Ward adds while serving in the role has come with its challenges, he says many times it has been interesting and productive.

The KCTCS says no other information on the presidential search is available at this time due to the privacy surrounding the hiring of personnel. The candidates who applied for the job are welcome to do so again when it reopens.
