Overnight closure of Nada Tunnel scheduled for March 19

U.S. National Archives

The Nada Tunnel in Powell County, located on KY 77 at milepoint 2.2, will be closed overnight on Tuesday, March 19, for an inspection.

The road will be closed to all traffic starting at 7 p.m., and should reopen to traffic by 7 a.m. the following morning. The tunnel will be inspected as part of the National Tunnel Inspection Program.

Through traffic between Menifee and Powell counties should detour via US 460 and KY 213 through Montgomery County. Local traffic is reminded that KY 613 (North Fork Road) in Powell County remains closed at milepoint 8.4 due to a major break in pavement that extends across both lanes of the highway, so that route is not available as a detour route. Local traffic should use KY 15 and KY 715 through Wolfe County while the tunnel is closed.

Message boards will be placed to inform drivers of the closure.

The Nada Tunnel is a primary gateway to the Red River Gorge National Geological Area.

The overnight closure during the week was scheduled so as to minimize disruptions to traffic for visitors, as well as residents of the area.
