NWS Jackson: "Most of Eastern KY will be impacted"

NWS Jackson

Forecasters with the National Weather Service are warning area residents about potential wintery weather this weekend.

A low pressure system will be making its way just South of the Commonwealth and up the Atlantic coast.  That puts Kentucky in the Northern sector of the system, making the chances for cold temperatures, snow and sleet very likely Saturday through Sunday night.

Jane Wix is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson.  She says with the system a ways off, it is a little early to gauge how much and what kind of precipitation to expect.

Still, Wix says the good thing about catching the system early like this means there is plenty of time to prepare and adjust your schedule if necessary.

For now, Wix says it appears the lighter amount of winter weather will hit the area through the day Saturday.  The more significant precipitation would hit Sunday through Monday morning.
