MSU welcomes acclaimed guitarist Phil Keaggy May 1

Morehead State University

World-renowned guitarist and singer-songwriter Phil Keaggy will perform at MSU with special guest violinist and vocalist Jean Watson on Wednesday, May 1, in Button Auditorium.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and early arrivals will be treated to music provided by MSU Associate Professor of Music Glenn Ginn and his wife Lisa Ginn at 7 p.m., followed by the show’s headliners.

Tickets are free for MSU students with EagleCard and a suggested donation of $10 or more per adult from MSU faculty and staff, or the general public will be accepted at the door.

A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Keaggy’s solo career has spanned more than four decades and has included more than 60 solo albums and eight recordings with his band Glass Harp. The fingerstyle guitarist gained recognition in the Christian music industry, leading to him winning multiple Dove Awards for his instrumental recordings. He was also voted one of the top fingerstyle guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers.

This will be a return visit for Keaggy to MSU and Ginn is excited to share the stage with him once again.

"Phil Keaggy is one of the best guitarists in the world,” Ginn said. “It was a pleasure to play with him back when he visited the MSU campus in 2015."

Jean Watson is a Michigan native and a fellow Christian artist. The classically trained violinist performs with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and is also a national touring singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who plays a mix of world music and worship music. She recently released her ninth album and her first book titled “Everything Can Change in Forty Days.”

The concert is co-sponsored by MSU’s Methodist Student Center and the Music Industry Club.
