MSU Slips By Wright State 74-69

MSU Athletics

Junior Angelo Warner posted 19 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals to help the Morehead State men's basketball team score a 74-69 victory over Wright State on Monday night (Dec. 2) at MSU’s Johnson Arena.

"Angelo is our do-it-all guy," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "He's as consistent and tough as any player I've ever coached. Angelo had another really solid game for us, especially down the stretch, and was a big key in our victory."

The Eagles, who play in the Ohio Valley Conference, improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 at home. The Raiders, who compete in the Horizon League, slip to 5-4 on the season. MSU also moves to 7-5 in the all-time series against WSU.

Morehead State senior Chad Posthumus posted 13 points and 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Junior Billy Reader chipped in with 14 points for the Eagles on 7-of-9 shooting, while sophomore Brent Arrington contributed 10.

Morehead State trailed most of the first half before putting together a 29-9 run, which covered the three minutes before halftime and first six minutes of the second period. The Eagles registered their biggest lead of 11 points with 14:07 to play.

"We went to our press, which forced some turnovers and helped us get some easy baskets," Woods said. "We started getting more aggressive and that got our guys going. Our crowd also got into the game, and our players fed off that energy."

The Eagles, who have not been outrebounded in 10 games this season, tallied advantages of 39-27 overall and 13-8 on the offensive end. MSU also posted the upper hand in paint points (44-30), fast-break points (12-5) and points off turnovers (17-12).

Morehead State canned just six percent (1-of-16) from three-point range, but converted on 63 percent (24-of-38) from inside the arc to finish at 46 percent (25-of-54) overall. The Eagles also knocked down 23 free throws, while the Raiders hit just seven.

Sophomore JT Yoho, who made 7-of-12 overall and 4-of-7 from long distance, led Wright State with 18 points. Senior Miles Dixon added 16 points for the Raiders.

MSU continues non-conference action on Wednesday (Dec. 4) at Conference USA opponent Southern Mississippi. Tip-off from Reed Green Coliseum is set for 8 p.m. The Golden Eagles are led by former MSU Head Coach Donnie Tyndall (2006-12).

"Every game is important," Woods added. "Our guys just keep stepping up to the plate, which is great to see. We hope to play well at Southern Miss and get another victory heading into semester finals week and 10 days without a game."
