MSU Rifle Records Second-Best Score in Program History at JSU

MSU Athletics

Powered by a school record-tying smallbore total, the Morehead State rifle team eclipsed the 4,600 mark for the second time this season, shooting the second best aggregate score in program history Saturday at Jacksonville State.

The Eagles fired a 2,295 smallbore total, and that effort led to a 4,605 aggregate total - just two points shy of the school record set last season at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships. The host Gamecocks won the dual match, notching a 4,638 total.

Senior Russell Smith led the performance with season highs in air rifle and smallbore. He was third with a 580 smallbore ledger, and upped that to 581 on the air gun.

In air rifle, sophomore Haley Wilson notched a 577, while fellow sophomore Seth Baker was close behind at 576. Baker finished second on the squad in smallbore with a 575.

Sophomore Joe Fischer established a season high with a 576 in air rifle. Freshmen Brandon Bryer and Siarra "CC" Crum both fired 573's in air rifle, and for Bryer that was his second-best total of the year.

Freshman Melanie West shot a career-best 557 in smallbore.

Morehead State will now gear up for the OVC Championships, set for Saturday and Sunday at Murray State.
