The annual Morehead State University Winter Choral Showcase Concert will follow at 7:30. University Chorus, Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and the Black Gospel Ensemble will join Concert Choir for the evening concert.  Admission is free.

Chamber Singers will begin the concert with the exuberant madrigal, “It was a lover and his lass” by Thomas Morley.  They will also sing “Vita de la mia vita” by William Hawley, “La Biche” by Paul HIndmith, and recall their recent Spain tour with “O vos omnes” by the famous Spanish Renaissance composer, Tomás Luis de Victoria.

University chorus will continue the concert with “Muusika” by Liiv and Uusberg and the spiritual, “I Wanna be Ready” by Rosephayne Powell.  They will be joined by soloist, Dr. Eric Brown.

Ten years ago, the famous American composer, Morten Lauridsen came to Morehead State University to work with the choirs as they prepared and presented a concert of his works. The centerpiece work of that concert was his beautiful Lux Aeterna. On this concert, Concert Choir will perform the last three movements of this classic of American choral writing.  The composer has described his piece as an “intimate work of quiet serenity” that expresses “hope, reassurance, faith and illumination in all of its manifestations.”

Jazz Vocal Ensemble will   follow with “The More I See You” by Harry Warren and “Chili Con Carne” by Anders Endenroth, a fitting selection for a chili dinner evening!

The concert will conclude with the Black Gospel Ensemble. They will sing four selections: “Nara” by Tim Godfrey, “Moving Forward” by Israel Houghton, “He’s the Same” by BGE director Roosevelt Escalante, Jr. and “Ev’ry Praise” by J. David Bratton.
