Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY) is pleased to announce the recipient of two station leadership awards.

Mr. Charles (Chas) Jenkins is the recipient of the 2020 MSPR/CAB Student Leadership Award and the 2020 MSPR Outstanding Student Award.

The Student Leadership Award is selected by MSPR’s Community Advisory Board and presented to a student with demonstrated leadership skills and community involvement.

The Outstanding Student Award is presented by MSPR to a student with excellent leadership skills, teamwork, commitment and initiative.

Charles Jenkins (Morehead, KY) is a senior studying Convergent Media at Morehead State University. He has worked at MSPR since the summer of 2016 as a news reporter, anchor, and board operator. He was also the host/editor of the WMKY podcast Unwarranted Music Opinions.

“Chas Jenkins has been an asset to our newsroom for several years,” said Leeann Akers, MSPR news director. “It has been fun to watch him grow in his educational experience at Morehead State University and to see him find his place at Morehead State Public Radio. We are very pleased to award him with these honors and know he will go on to do great things.”

WMKY relies on student work-studies, interns and volunteers. Throughout the year, an average of 20 students perform a variety of important roles at the station including news, sports and feature reporting, program hosting and engineering, production recording and editing.

“WMKY offers a variety of hands-on opportunities in a professional and educational environment. We value the hard work by our student staff and their commitment to our listeners,” said Paul Hitchcock, MSPR general manager.
