WebMD

A Morehead police officer is alive after being exposed to an unknown substance, which caused him to overdose Tuesday afternoon.

The officer responded to an injury accident, and was leaving when he realized what was happening and was able to alert another officers on the scene.

MPD Captain Erskin Davis says luckily the officer was trained to know the signs of an overdose.

The officer was taken to Saint Claire Healthcare for decontamination and released.

Davis says this incident shows how important it is for everyone to have access to Narcan. He says even trained officers can be exposed unknowingly.

Davis says individuals who may offer assistance at accidents should always wear gloves, a mask, and keep their eyes protected in order to minimize the risk of exposure.
