Seven Morehead State students earned awards at the Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) poster and oral presentation competition.
The competition was held during the KAS annual meeting, held virtually Nov. 6-7. Awards were presented for first, second and third place in 17 categories.
Winners are:
Ethan Chandler from Ashland, a senior chemistry/biomedical sciences major, first place-Cellular and Molecular Biology, "Creating a Circular Chromosome in Saccharomyces cerevisiae."
Junior Breanna Epperson from Wallins Creek, a physics education major, third place-Science Education, "Increasing Student Engagement in Introductory Online Physics."
Dylan Grupe, a junior majoring in mathematics education from Lexington, third place-Physics/Astronomy, "Long Term Monitoring of the Seyfert 1 Galaxy MKN 110 Using Swift."
Senior Becca Mikula, a chemistry and physics/astrophysics major from Savannah, Missouri, first place, Computer and Information Sciences, "Developing a Level 1 Data Processing Script for the Lunar IceCube Mission."
Reganne Miller from Carlisle, a senior psychology major, third place-Social Sciences, "Tracking and Different Modality Secondary Task Performance."
Parker Poulos, a senior majoring in physics/astrophysics from Mt. Sterling, second place-Physics/Astronomy, "A Multi-Wavelength Study of the Quasar PKS2135-147."
Jacob Wagoner from Morehead, a junior majoring in applied physics, first place-Physics/Astronomy, "Limb Darkening made 'easy' with smartphones and solar projection."
The KAS is a membership-based scientific society with thousands of members across the Commonwealth. The mission of the KAS is to foster scientific discovery and understanding in Kentucky.
