Morehead State Splits Softball Doubleheader With Belmont

MSU Athletics

Freshman pitcher Megan Tymorek allowed just three hits and senior shortstop Samantha Howard smashed a bases loaded two-run double to help the Morehead State softball team split an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader with Belmont on Saturday (March 15) at Rose Park.

MSU (4-13, 1-1) took game one 3-1, before Belmont (7-13, 1-1) stormed back to take the nightcap 7-0. In the opener, the Eagles claimed their fourth OVC opener in six seasons.

Freshman designated player Karly Thompson finished the second contest 2-for-3, and was the only MSU player with multiple hits in either contest. Junior third baseman Katie Raile had a hit in each game.

Morehead State also had just three hits in the first contest and finished with six in game two. Tymorek (3-7) earned the win in game one, as she struck out two and walked one.

Brittanie Albright was charged with all three MSU runs, while Mia Vierra (1-1) allowed two hits in 1.2 innings of relief.

The Eagles scored all three runs in the top of the sixth. Junior third baseman Katie Raile picked up the other RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Belmont chased MSU junior starter Tanna Seuferer (1-5) after allowing three runs on three hits in 0.1 innings. Senior Kelcey McMurray allowed four runs on five hits in four innings of relief, while senior Greta Smeins did not give up a hit in 1.2 innings.

Taylor Moon (3-4) and Carolyn Snodgress allowed three hits apiece in the circle in game two. The Bruins were led by Vierra and Jessica Wilson, who each finished 2-for-3 with a home run. Belmont scored three runs in the first and third innings, before scoring their final run in the bottom of the fifth.

The teams will decide the series on Sunday (March 16). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
