MSU Athletics

No. 18 Morehead State Rifle claimed a victory over Virginia Military Institute, 4,594-4,479, at Button Range Saturday while setting a school record in air rifle.

Sophomores Haley Wilson and Dan Hall, paired with freshmen Melanie West and Siarra "CC" Crum, recorded a combined score of 2,324 in air rifle. Wilson led the group with a score of 586, followed by West at 583 (career high), Crum with 580 and Hall finishing it off with a 575. It was the second victory of the year over the Keydets.

"I am so proud of this team," said Head Coach Alan Joseph. "They have shown continued improvement in each contest. Our freshmen are adapting rapidly and the returners are leading."

The combined score of 4,594 marked a season high, and that total was marked by several career bests throughout the roster.

Sophomore Joe Fischer recorded a career-high in smallbore (576) and air rifle (574) with 1,150. Freshman Brandon Bryer shot his personal best in smallbore standing (182), smallbore total (558) and air rifle (567). Wilson tallied her career high in smallbore standing with a 191.

MSU will head to Kentucky for its next shots, taking on the No. 1 Wildcats and No. 12 Navy for a tri-match on Saturday at Barker Hall.
