Classes at Morehead State University will transition to online instruction for a two-week period (March 23-April3) following spring break.
The announcement from Morehead State President Dr. Jay Morgan also says residential halls will remain open for any student needing to reside. That decision was made due to many MSU students coming from rural areas with limited access to broadband internet to complete online courses from home, as well as many students not having the ability to return home without significant prior planning.
Morehead State’s main and regional campuses will remain open, but operate on a modified 9:00am-3:00pm work schedule for all faculty and staff. Employees will receive normal compensation in that time. Students who hold campus work positions should check with their supervisors after the break for specific details.
The university asks anyone traveling in that time review guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html. MSU also requests any university employee or student who travels internationally, or travels somewhere they believe they have come in contact with individuals who may be sick to fill out a voluntary travel form at www.moreheadstate.edu/springbreaktravel. Responses to the form will remain confidential and will assist the university with prevention and planning efforts.
Morehead State’s moratorium on all University-sponsored study abroad programs and all other university-sponsored international travel will remain in place until May 1st. A moratorium is also in place for all University-sponsored domestic travel on commercial airlines until May 1st. Until April 1st, a moratorium will be in place for all non-essential University-sponsored travel outside the State of Kentucky pending further review.
Larger University-sponsored meetings, conferences, events, and extracurricular items between now and April 1st scheduled on MSU’s Main or Regional campuses will be left up to the discretion of the division Vice President to continue or discontinue.
Morehead State University will update students and employees of any developments via email moving forward. Additional details can be viewed at https://www.moreheadstate.edu/coronavirus
