Micah Johnson, a standout receiver himself with NFL playing experience and 10+ years collegiate coaching on his resume, has joined the Morehead State staff as the wide receivers coach.
Johnson played three years in the NFL after a standout all-conference career at South Dakota State. He has made coaching stops at Quincy (Ill.), Minnesota-Morris, Case Western Reserve (Ohio) and Grinnell (Iowa), as well as two state titles at the high school level.
Johnson most recently served as wide receivers coach and strength and conditioning coordinator at Quincy during the 2020-21 season.
Prior to that he was the offensive coordinator at Minnesota-Morris for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. That followed a stop at Case Western Reserve, where he helped led his team to an undefeated regular season and a venture into the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs in 2017.
From 2014-16, he was the head coach at Joy Christian High School in Glendale, Ariz. He led the program to a pair of state championships in his three years from 2014-16.
Johnson opened his coaching foray at Grinnell from 2010-13. He mentored two wide receivers who went into the NFL as well as helping GC's offensive output rank among the top 10 in the nation all three years.
Johnson was an all-conference wideout for the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. He later latched on with NFL teams Cincinnati, San Francisco and Atlanta. He also played with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.
Originally from Hawaii, Johnson settled in Arizona. He graduated from SDSU in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in biology.
