Men's Hoops Adds Two Junior College National Champions

MSU Athletics

Treshaad Williams and Xavier Moon, teammates in 2014-15 at Northwest Florida State College, have signed National Letters of Intent with the Morehead State men's basketball program. Both have two seasons of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.

Williams and Moon, both Second-Team All-Panhandle Conference selections as sophomores, helped Northwest Florida to a National Junior College Athletic Association national championship in 2015. The duo led the Raiders to a 33-2 overall record, including 23-0 in non-conference action.

"I want to welcome Treshaad and Xavier to our program at Morehead State," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "We were lucky to attract two young men of their caliber. Both are big-time competitors and have been winners at their previous stops. They have the mentality we are looking for."

A 6-foot-6 forward from Nashville, Ga., Williams averaged 8.7 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 65 percent from the field as a sophomore. A 6-foot-2 guard from Goodwater, Ala., Moon averaged 7.7 points and 2.7 boards while knocking down 41 percent from long range the same year.

Williams helped NJCAA member South Georgia Tech to a 29-5 overall record in 2013-14. He averaged 10.6 points and 8.2 rebounds while connecting on 65 percent from the floor as a freshman for the Jets. Williams was a standout in basketball, football and track at Berrien County High School.

"Treshaad seems to be around the ball all the time," Woods said. "He may not 'wow' you right away, but you look at the stat sheet at the end of the game and he's filled it up. Treshaad is a tough, physical guy who can get it done on both ends of the floor. He will be a nice addition for us."

Moon helped NFSC to a 22-6 overall mark in 2013-14. He averaged 4.5 points and 1.8 rebounds as a freshman for the Raiders. Moon was a Class 3A First-Team All-State selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association as a senior at Central Coosa High School and led the state in scoring

"Xavier has a scorer's mentality and get points in bunches," Woods said. "He's hard to stop when he heats up like a microwave. Xavier is a sneaky athletic guard who also presents problems for the opponent when he's on defense. I'm glad he will be in an Eagle uniform the next two seasons."

Morehead State has finished Ohio Valley Conference play .500-or-better in eight consecutive seasons. The Eagles have also advanced to the league tournament semifinals in six of the last seven years. MSU closed out the 2014-15 campaign with 10 victories in its final 14 contests.

"Treshaad and Xavier have been through the grind and finished the course," Woods added. "We have some hungry guys returning to our program in 2015-16, and these two newcomers have that same mindset. They want to win and will do everything they can to help us be successful."
