Men's Basketball Guts Out 66-55 Win at Austin Peay

MSU Athletics

Morehead State Men's Basketball gutted out a 66-55 OVC victory at Austin Peay on Saturday evening at the Dunn Center.

The Eagles improved to 10-5 overall, their fourth straight win, and 2-0 in the OVC. APSU fell to 0-3 in the league and 4-9 overall.

Second-year big man Johni Broome had to sit much of the second half with four fouls but still finished with team-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds as the Eagles out-boarded the hosts 40-36.

Sophomore guard Ta'Lon Cooper stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Balanced scoring was the key as well with Broome having to watch from the bench. Tray Hollowell scored nine, while Jaylon Hall, Skyelar Potter, LJ Bryan and Jaylen Sebree all finished with six points.

Morehead State connected on its first five shot attempts and hit seven of its first eight to build a 16-4 lead in the first five minutes. APSU cut it to six (20-14) but Potter, Broome and Hollowell sank buckets in succession as the visitors went back up by double digits. MSU shot 52 percent (14-of-27) in the opening half and led 38-29 at the intermission.

The second half became a little closer battle. The Govs cut the Eagle lead to four (42-38) early in the half before MSU went back out by double digits. APSU then trimmed its deficit back down to as low as six. Broome scored the final four as the Eagles won by double-digits.

MSU finished shooting 47 percent (25-of-53). The Eagles only hit four three-pointers, their lowest total of the year after hitting 5+ in all 14 games so far.

The Eagles are slated to return home on Wednesday to host UT Martin at 7 p.m. ET.
