Masks are about to become optional for students in Fleming County's middle and high schools.
Following the passage of Senate Bill 1 in September, the Fleming County Board of Education voted to make masks optional for middle and high school students starting November 1. They will become optional for elementary school students beginning January 1 pending the approval of a COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11.
Superintdendent Brian Creasman says while masking will be optional, he foresees many students, faculty and staff continuing to wear them.
Creasmen adds the district has also been trying out test-to-stay protocols in recent weeks.
