Lohmeier Collects Her 1,000 Career Kill as Volleyball Falls to West Virginia

MSU Athletics

For the final time this season, Morehead State volleyball faced a non-conference opponent, going toe-to-toe with West Virginia Tuesday night. The Eagles (14-5) kept it close throughout before ultimately dropping to the Mountaineers (10-8) in four sets.

West Virginia took the match by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-11.

Entering the match, junior outside hitter Olivia Lohmeier needed just 19 kills to become the 20th player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills. She reached that number and then some, collecting 21 kills on the evening, exceeding 10 or more kills for the 31st straight match. Lohmeier tied the match-high kill count, joining West Virginia's Katelyn Evans with 21 kills.

Sophomore middle blocker Mia Swearingen joined Lohmeier in double-figures for Morehead State, recording 12 kills. Following Lohmeier and Swearingen on the scoresheet were junior outside hitter Lauren Rokey (eight), redshirt junior outside hitter Liz Allen (five), sophomore middle blocker Hannah Keating (five), freshman setter Bridget Bessler (two), redshirt sophomore defensive specialist Taylor Hodges (one), and senior middle blocker Karlee Reynolds (one).

Offensively, Morehead State registered 55 total kills, 54 of which included an assist. Bessler paced the Eagles, dishing out a match-best 46 assists.

Patrolling the backline, sophomore libero Allison Whitten dug up a match-high 20 digs, reaching the 20-dig mark for the first time since digging 24 balls against Southeast Missouri last October. Backline mates sophomore Olivia Montelisciani and redshirt senior defensive specialist Danielle McCarson joined Whitten in double-figures, tallying 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

At the net, the Eagles collected five total team blocks, paced by four players who collected two total blocks apiece. Keating, Lohmeier, Rokey, and Swearingen each totaled two blocks with Swearingen tallying the team's lone solo block.

Morehead State returns to action this weekend, hitting the road for the first time in three matches. The Eagles travel to Southeast Missouri and UT Martin. Match times are set for 6 p.m. ET and 12 p.m., respectively.
