A student at Lexington Christian Academy needs your help winning a national competition and it comes with a hefty college scholarship. The theme for this year’s annual Doodle for Google competition is “I’m strong because…” Milo Golding, a junior at Lexington Christian Academy immediately knew his answer. It was inspired by his late father. “I remember asking him how he was able to get through life obstacles and becoming who you wanted to be.” Golding said his father answered “Hope. Hope keeps me strong. So that’s really been a motto and a saying that has really empowered me to strengthen my resolve to move forward and constantly gives me hope. Throughout the illustration that I drew, everything, each component revolves around that concept of hope and moving forward and strengthening yourself.”

The judges saw that hope and passion in Golding’s work and chose him to represent Kentucky in his age group. “I was coming back home and I saw these balloons and these people and my lawn and I just saw my mom smirk.” Golding said “I was thinking to myself what is she planning? Is this for Mother’s Day or what’s happening? And then I saw the logo on the shirts and it was the Google logo and I thought to myself. Wow! This is really happening.”

And the excitement quickly spread to his classmates at LCA. “It was like Milo you won! Wow! Congratulations!” He smiled humbly and added, “I’m very proud of myself and I’m very thankful and grateful for the support I receive from my friends, my teachers, the school and the community as a whole.”

You can help Golding become one of the five finalists by voting for his artwork at doodles.google.com. The grand prize? A 30,000 college scholarship. If he wins, Golding will use the funds to help pay for undergrad and medical school. He wants to become a cardiologist in honor of his dad who had a heart attack and passed away when Golding was 13. “I believe that he’d be proud. And thinking back on all the experiences and reflecting on them I believe that my illustration revolves around my story with him and hopefully, it inspires others to connect with what my story is and my experiences.”
