KY Schools Hurt by Sequestration

An official with Kentucky’s Department of Education says the Commonwealth has lost about 26-million dollars in federal grants as the result of budget sequestration. Charles Harman is director of the Budget Division.

He says the cuts include more than eight-million dollars to special education…

"Most of the time districts use the funding for staff…its people in classrooms. We are going to have fewer teachers with special education funding to deal with that population of students." - Charles Harman, KY Department of Education

Harman says funds for teacher training and professional development have been cut, too. He testified Thursday before House and Senate members of the Appropriations and Revenue Committee.
