Kids Vaccines Available Soon

Saint Claire Healthcare

Children in the region will soon have access to the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended all children ages 5 through 11 get a low-dose COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer on Tuesday.

The move clears the way for shots to be administered as soon as today, though it may be a few days before the vaccine is widely available.

Saint Claire Healthcare Chief Medical Officer Will Melahn says the kids’ dose is the same as the adult version, but at a lower dose.

Shipments of the vaccine started last Friday following the Food and Drug Administration's decision to authorize the vaccine in this age group. Melahn says he expects doses to be on hand in the next couple of days.
