Japanese Plant To Locate in Corbin

Toocle

A Japanese metalworking company is opening its first American plant in eastern Kentucky.

Kowa Kentucky Incorporated is locating in Corbin in the Southeast Kentucky Business Park. The announcement was made on Monday (Sept. 22) during a press conference in Frankfort.

Governor Beshear says it’s a vote of confidence in the Commonwealth. He says Kowa plans to employ about 30 people by April of 2015.

Beshear says Kentucky has offered tax incentives of up to 650-thousand dollars for the project. Kowa makes a metal surface treatment for automotive suppliers.

Knox County’s unemployment rate is nearly eleven percent, so Judge Executive J.M. Hall says the new jobs are a blessing. Company officials say they’ll complete work on their Kentucky plant next summer and begin production in January of 2016.
