Intersection of KY 7 and KY 1161 in Morgan County to be closed beginning Jan. 8

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

A safety improvement project on KY 7 at Pomp in Morgan County will result in a long-term road closure scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 8.

The road will be closed until late July or early August to realign a curve near the KY 1161 intersection. This will impact traffic between West Liberty and Sandy Hook.

In addition, KY 1161 will be closed at this location.

Signed detours will be established. KY 7 traffic will be rerouted via KY 519 and Billy D. Riggsby Road, also known as Hot Mix Road or Old KY 519. All KY 1161 traffic will be required to use KY 172 via US 460 through downtown West Liberty.

A $3.6 million contract was awarded in November for the project, which will eliminate a rock overhang, straighten and add shoulders to KY 7 for 1,000 feet in either direction of the KY 1161 intersection.

Nearly 1,700 vehicles use this segment of KY 7 each day, with 11 percent of that being truck traffic. Approximately 200 vehicles use KY 1161 each day.
