Hogge Earns Top Pro Prize at 2017 Kentucky Open; Current Eagles Fare Well Also

MSU Athletics

Former Morehead State golfer Logan Hogge set the competitive course record and finished as the top professional at the 2017 Kentucky Open Tournament, held this week at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville.

Hogge, who was a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree for the Eagles, finished his career in 2016 and became a professional golfer. That same year, he was named as an OVC Scholar-Athlete and won MSU's coveted Laughlin-Miller Award. Hogge fired a final round 64 at Hurstbourne, which included eight birdies and an eagle. Overall, Hogge finished in second place with a tournament total 207 for six-under-par. In the final round, he had five birdies out of six holes on the front nine and another three consecutive birdies on the back nine.

Hogge, a native of nearby Salt Lick, has impressive history in the Kentucky Open. He was the low amateur in 2015, also the same year he won the Kentucky State Amateur.

Current Morehead State golfers also fared fairly well or took part in the event. Junior Nick Wilkins (Paducah) finished tied for 30th and fired a final round 70. Sophomore Ryan Gillum (Grayson) sat in a deadlock for 39th place, boasting a final round 71. Junior Zach Smith (Mt. Sterling) was tied for 59th, while incoming freshman Cameron Dawson (Hodgenville) took part but fell short of the cut.

The current Eagles, under head coach Matthew Martin, start the 2017-18 season on Sept. 10-12 in South Carolina.
