Gwen Sloas named director of MSU Mt. Sterling

MSU

Dr. Gwen Sloas, assistant dean of admission for Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine, has been named regional campus director at Morehead State University at Mt. Sterling.

“We were thrilled to attract a person of Dr. Sloas’ caliber to the position,” said Brent Jones, executive director of distance education and regional campuses. “Mt. Sterling is poised to move into the second decade of its existence and having someone with Dr. Sloas’ skills and passion for regional campus education and students will lead us there. With her local ties and her educational background, we feel that she can continue the high standards that Dr. Kenney has started here in Mt Sterling.”

A native of Fleming County, Dr. Sloas was named assistant dean of admission in 2013. Prior to that she was associate director for student affairs/admissions and director of student scheduling/academic programming.

She had been with the medical school since November 1997, serving as an associate director of student affairs/admissions, academic support specialist and director of financial aid services.

“Coming to MSU at Mt. Sterling is a dream come true.” said Dr. Sloas. “Not only can I come home to help the place I love, but I can work with students who may not have been able to reach their full potential because college seemed out of reach due to time and location constraints. Our students here have opportunities that they didn’t have years ago and I hope to continue to expand these opportunities.”

Prior to her tenure at Wright State, Dr. Sloas served as campus director at Ivy Tech Community College in Lawrenceburg, Ind., from 1989-97.

She served as a residence hall director at MSU from August 1984-85.

Dr. Sloas received her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Transylvania University; a Master of Arts degree in student personnel work in higher education from The Ohio State University and an Ed. D. degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

She succeeds Dr. Janet Kenney, who had been with MSU since July 1994. Dr. Kenney became the first full-time director of MSU at Mt. Sterling in July 2003. Under her leadership, MSU at Mt. Sterling has grown to be MSU’s largest regional campus.
