Grossmann Named OVC Pitcher of the Week

MSU Athletics

Morehead State freshman Mackenzie Grossmann has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 6-12. She becomes the first Eagle to collect the accolade since Alex Gjevre on April 19, 2010.

"Congratulations to Mackenzie to this honor," Head Coach David Williams said. "She pitched well over the weekend. Mackenzie has been a consistent performer for us this season. She has done a nice job of scattering hits and getting ground-ball outs."

Grossmann, a native of Perry, Mo., recorded two complete-game victories against Belmont over the weekend. The right-hander allowed just one run in 14 innings and tallied her first collegiate shutout on Sunday when Morehead State notched a 1-0 win.

"Mackenzie really competed against Belmont, and our defense played three errorless games behind her," Williams said. "You have a pretty good chance for success when you record 30 ground-outs and allow just one flyout in 14 innings."

Grossmann, who has won six of her last eight decisions, lowered her earned run average from 3.11 to 2.79. She owns a 10-6 record in 2015 with 72 strikeouts in 113 innings. The hurler has also limited opponents to a .221 batting average.

The Eagles return to the diamond on Wednesday when they host Horizon League opponent Wright State. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. ET.
