Grayson Rural Electric Issues Scam Warning

Ron Rule

The president of Grayson Rural Electric Co-operative says con artists are at work in Rowan County, claiming they’re under contract with the utility to upgrade household electrical systems. Carol Fraley says they’re asking customers to pay them thousands of dollars.

“There are two men and a woman posing as contractors for the cooperative and they’re asking for amounts in excess of 22-hundred dollars to do some work on their electrical system. They are not authorized by the co-op by any way, shape or form.” –Carol Fraley

Fraley says one person may have already written a check. She says Grayson Rural has contacted law enforcement officials and is warning customers not to pay any crews claiming to be doing work for the co-op.

The utility has 14-thousand customers in six counties.
