Governor Andy Beshear made a stop in Morehead Tuesday to tour AppHarvest’s flagship greenhouse.

The visit was Beshear’s first to the facility, saying he had wanted to drop by sooner, but delayed the trip several times to reduce travel during the pandemic.

After receiving a tour of the greenhouse, the Governor highlighted the fact the Morehead location has already shipped more than one-million pounds of sustainably grown tomatoes across the Eastern seaboard.

AppHarvest also announced an expansion of its Educational Container Farm Program during the Beshear’s visit.  The Rockcastle County addition will allow students there to grow fruits and vegetables to be provided to their classmates and those in need.

That container farm makes six implemented so far by the company, with the goal of 20 farms located at schools in the commonwealth over the next two years.
