Football Falls 38-31 in Shootout at Marist

MSU Athletics

Marist's football team outscored Morehead State 14-0 in the fourth quarter to get a come-from-behind 38-31 victory Saturday.

Marist, which snapped a four-game losing streak, improved to 4-7, 3-4 in the Pioneer Football League. Morehead State fell to 3-7, 2-5 in the PFL

"That was the story of the game, the fourth quarter," said head coach Rob Tenyer. "It was a good football game up to that point - going back-and-forth - seems like our consistency fell apart."

Morehead State led 31-24 heading into the final 15 minutes, but saw Marist quarterback Mike White throw two touchdown passes. The final one, a 20-yarder to Lawrence Dickens with 4:21 remaining, proved to be the game winner.

"We just made too many mistakes, especially in the fourth quarter, we had two fumbles, an interception and three sacks. Just too much to overcome," said Tenyer.

Junior quarterback Lawson Page finished 31-of-51 for a season-and-career high 427 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also added one rushing touchdown. Junior tailback Arien Beasley led the running game with 64 yards on 20 carries and scored once. Junior wideout Jarin Higginbotham hauled in seven passes for a career-best 137 yards and a score - his fourth 100-yard game of 2017.

Marist had 504 total yards while Morehead State finished with 427. Defensively, freshman safety Starr Hutcherson led the way with eight tackles.

Morehead State will finish the 2017 season Saturday, Nov. 18, against PFL opponent Davidson. Prior to the game, the Eagles will honor 13 seniors playing their final game at Jayne Stadium. It also will be Salute to Veterans Day. Any military personnel - active or retired - will be admitted free. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
