Football Celebrates Spring Season That Far Exceeded Predictions

MSU Athletics

Before the 2020 football season, moved to the spring of 2021 this year due to COVID-19, the official poll in voting on how teams would finish in the Pioneer League had the Morehead State Eagles last - seventh place.

Now more than ever, that slogan rang true as the Eagles far exceeded what many told them they could accomplish. MSU finished 4-3, including 4-2 in the PFL, finishing in a tie for second place and came within literal points of winning a championship.

The Eagles' fashioned the first winning record since 2015 and finished with a perfect home record for the first time since 1949.

Among the standout performances, Morehead State's team stats stood out on both sides of the ball where the Eagles rank among the best teams in the conference and the nation (top 25). Among them are:

Interceptions (14) - FIRST in the PFL and tied for FIRST in the FCS

Turnover Margin (+7) - FIRST in the PFL and TENTH in the FCS

Turnovers Gained (18) - FIRST in the PFL and THIRD in the FCS

Pass Defense Efficiency (107.0) - SECOND in the PFL and 14th in the FCS
