The Martin County man who serves as president of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity says the loss of mining jobs in Appalachia is just part of the economic impact of increased environmental regulation of the industry.
Mike Duncan made his comments earlier this week on C-Span’s Washington Journal.
Duncan says the seven-thousand jobs lost in eastern Kentucky has been a tremendous blow to the region. However, he says there’s more hardship to come in the form of higher fuel bills. He says low-income workers will be hit the hardest because many of them spend about 70 percent of their take-home pay on energy.
Duncan claims new regulations on coal-fired power plants imposed by the Obama Administration are costing the industry 357-billion dollars.
