Elliott County was among those awarded funds from the Commonwealth for various infrastructure projects Friday.
The county received over $1.6-million to improve flood control efforts, water systems and roadways there. $948,200 of that money has already been spent. Those funds went towards repaving KY-7 and multiple county roads. $400,000 will go towards repairing infrastructure in Elliott County damaged by floods over the past two years. Projects include bridge, road and drainage repairs and replacing two low water crossings.
The last $276,069 is going towards the renovation of a pump station for the City of Sandy Hook. Elliott County Judge Executive Myron Lewis says that project has needed addressed for several years.
Lewis says the flood mitigation work is still a while off.
The American Society of Civil Engineers in 2019 projected that Kentucky faces nearly $14.5 billion in water/wastewater infrastructure needs over the next 20 years, including over $8.2 billion in drinking water upgrades and $6.2 billion in sewer system improvements.
