Eight Football Eagles Tabbed to Phil Steele's Preseason All-PFL Teams

Morehead State Football had eight players listed on Phil Steele's Preseason All-Pioneer Football League Teams.

Senior wide receiver Jarin Higginbotham is a first-team selection, while senior quarterback Lawson Page and sophomore slot receiver Landon Hurst were third-team picks on offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior lineman Patrick Rice and senior lineman Nick Flores were named to the second-team. Senior lineman Jamil Butler, junior linebacker Jerome Brooks and senior cornerback Chauncey Johns were on the third team.

Hurst was also tabbed as a second-team special teams punt returner.

Higginbotham ranked among the best receivers in the PFL in 2017, hauling in a team-best 48 passes for 974 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 20.3 yards per catch led the entire league. His total yards and yards per game (88.5) both rank third on MSU's single-season chart, and his touchdown total for last year also ranked tied for third.

Page proved to be a dual threat as the signal caller in 2017. He passed for 2,682 yards and 21 touchdowns and also rushed for 301 yards and four scores. His 482 actual yards gained led the team.

Hurst caught 41 passes for 489 yards (11.9 per catch) and scored four times. He returned 10 punts for a 13.5 yards-per-return average.

Rice made 26 total tackles in 2017, including 5.5 behind the line of scrimmage. He disrupted two passes and was credited for a pair of quarterback hurries.

Flores paced the entire defense with nine tackles for losses and also led the team with three sacks. He had 33 total stops. Flores also recovered a fumble.

Butler recorded 46 total tackles and six in the backfield. He also recovered one fumble.

Brooks ranked fourth on the team with 55 total tackles and notched 8.5 of them for losses for 29 yards. That was all in nine games as he missed the final two with injury.

Johns had 39 total tackles and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. He also ranked second on the squad with 14 passes defended.

Morehead State opens the 2018 season on Aug. 30 (Thursday) at Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. ET.
