Eight Eagles Selected to 2018 All-Pioneer League Teams

MSU Athletics

Morehead State football was represented by eight student-athletes on the 2018 All-Pioneer League teams.

Senior wide receiver Jarin Higginbotham was named to the second-team, while senior defensive lineman Jamil Butler, freshman return specialist Ian Holder, sophomore punter Andrew Foster, senior offensive lineman Kris Jones, senior defensive back Sayyid Kanu and redshirt junior offensive linemen Josh Poe and Ben Price were on the honorable mention list.

Higginbotham, a Liberty Township, Ohio native, wrapped up his career by leading the team with 39 catches for 667 yards and a trio of scores. He finished his career with 115 receptions for 2,107 yards to rank third in program history in yards. He is just one of three players to ever eclipse 2,000 career receiving yards. He also hauled in 15 career touchdowns.

Butler, from Louisville, Ky., finished the 2018 campaign with 45 total tackles, including five in the opponent backfields. He was also credited with a pair of quarterback hurries. He conclued his career with 109 tackles and 12 for losses.

Holder, hailing from Mount Airy, N.C., was named to the team as a return specialist. He had 118 yards in kick returns and 76 in punt returns. As a receiver, he ranked third on the team with 23 catches for 296 yards and found the end zone twice.

Foster, from Knoxville, Tenn., ranked among the PFL's most efficient punters. He averaged 41.9 yards per boot and boomed nine of more than 50 yards. His 73-yard blast against San Diego was only five yards shy of the school record set in 1978.

Jones, from Shelbyville, Ky., started the final 33 games of his career in the last three seasons. This season, he helped the Eagles' rushing attack gain 197.6 yards per game and the offense gain 404.6 yards per game as a whole.

Kanu, from Columbus, Ohio, was named the PFL Defensive Player of the Week after his effort in the win over Valparaiso. He wrapped up his career with a team-best 62 tackles in 2018 and also had a team-high six pass breakups and two pickoffs. In his four-year Eagle career, he amassed 225 tackles and had 13 passes defended.

Poe, a native of Salyersville, Ky., and Price, from Louisville, helped lead the offense to the best rushing attack in the PFL (among teams who don't use the spread option as their primary sets). Poe and Price each started all 11 games in 2018.
