Eagles Absorb Loss at No. 5 Baylor

MSU Athletics

Morehead State battled hard against one of the best teams in the country, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Baylor Lady Bears, as the Eagles fell 73-28.

Morehead State (1-5) utilized an effective zone defense for much of the game against the bigger Baylor squad, forcing the Bears to run a majority of their offense from the perimeter, but was undone by an incredible shooting performance from the fifth ranked team in the country, as Baylor hit 13 three pointers throughout the night.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Jada Claude, who put in eight points, including a season high two three pointers, to go alongside six rebounds. Julan McDonald added six points and five rebounds, while freshman Janay Rose notched a career high six points as well.

The Eagles traded threes in the opening moments with the Bears, and five early points from Jada Claude alongside a hardworking effort on the boards kept Morehead State close in the early stages, but a 10-0 run from Baylor gave them an 11 point cushion at the end of the opening frame.

Morehead State would slice the lead down to 9 in the second quarter, but Baylor employed five three-pointers in the quarter and a 14-0 run to build on their lead and put the game out of reach.

The Eagles are off for the next 11 days before completing their four game road trip at Evansville, Ind., on Dec. 11th at 2:00 p.m. ET.
