Eagle Baseball headed to the NCAA Clemson Regional

MSU Athletics

Morehead State Baseball is headed to Clemson, S.C. for the 2018 NCAA Regional. The Eagles learned their spot at a watch party at Buffalo Wild Wings on Monday afternoon.

Morehead State (four seed, 37-24) will face No. 10 national seed and fifth-ranked Clemson (45-14) at 6 p.m. ET on Friday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Vanderbilt (two seed, 31-25) and St. John's (three-seed, 39-25) are also at the Clemson Regional and will square off at Noon on Friday. The winners will play each other Saturday at 6 p.m. while the losers play Saturday at Noon in the double elimination format.

Specific ticket information will be passed along as it becomes available.

"Being a guy from (University of) South Carolina, I know the passionate fan base Clemson has," said head coach Mike McGuire." We are just happy to be in a regional with the setbacks we had with this team with injuries this year. It is quite an accomplishment. Clemson has one of the best bullpens in the country and some power bats, but we will be ready. We have played in these environments before. That is why we schedule the Louisville's, Tennessee's, Kansas' and many other power teams like we do to prepare for regional-type teams and atmospheres."

This weekend will mark the Eagle program's fourth-ever NCAA Regional berth, joining teams from 1977 (Miami Regional), 1983 (Ann Arbor [Mich.] Regional) and 2015 (Louisville [Ky.] Regional). Four-year seniors Braxton Morris, David Calderon and Tyler Niemann will become the first players in program history to be on two regional qualifying teams.

Morehead State knocked off No. 18 Tennessee Tech 11-6 on Saturday and then 4-3 on Sunday to win the 2018 OVC Championship. Tech got an at-large berth in the Mississippi Regional, marking the first time ever the OVC is a two-bid league in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
