Dukes down Soccer 3-0 in rainy Pittsburgh

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State soccer team fell to Duquesne 3-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Rooney Field.

Both teams battled through a downpour from the opening kick but the Dukes managed scored twice in the opening 45 minutes before adding another goal to cushion their lead in the 73rd minute.

"The weather was terrible but both teams had to play in it," said head coach Warren Lipka. "I thought we could build off a good second half we played on Friday against Kent State but we did not and now we have to get things together to open Ohio Valley Conference play on Friday."

Senior goalkeeper Michelle Washburn made her first start of 2018 in goal and made six save while allowing the three goals on 16 Duquesne shots over the course of 90 minutes.

The Eagles attempted seven shots with freshman forward Colleen Swift leading the charge with three but none on goal. Junior defender Ellie Weber, senior midfielder Samantha Damante, senior defender Makena Lavatori, and sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Burdine also attempted shots with each being on target.

Morehead State is now 1-7 in 2018 and has lost seven consecutive matches since winning their season opener 2-1 at Akron on August 17.

The Eagles now shift their focus to OVC play as Eastern Illinois come to Jayne Stadium for a Friday evening tilt set to get underway at 6:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live on the OVC Digital Network.
