Health Matters welcomes St. Claire Regional Medical Center surgeon Dr. James Lynch for a rousing discussion of weight loss surgery, obesity, and weight loss drugs. Brought to you by The Procedure of the Month Club, we will tell you everything you need to know about weight loss surgery in a community hospital.
Tip: There are three major groups of weight loss surgery. Bypass surgeries reconnect the bowels in a way that avoids absorbing foods. The weight loss (and the risk) of these surgeries is greater. Restrictive surgeries limit the size of the stomach, and include gastric banding, and sleeve gastrectomy, the most popular weight-loss surgery. Mixed surgeries use restriction, bypass, nerve stimulation, and other techniques to increase weight loss.
