Motorists should expect state highway work zones in several northeast counties in Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 during the next week, Oct. 8-15:

BATH COUNTY

•KY 1944 (White Oak Road): Beginning about 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, crews will close KY 1944 near the 5 mile marker – about 1.5 miles west of the KY 111 (Wyoming Road) intersection – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day through Friday, Oct. 15, for slide repairs. During construction, motorists may detour using KY 36 and KY 111 to reroute through Owingsville.

•Paving KY 1325 (East Fork Road); patching KY 1602 (Oakley-Pebble Road): Motorists should watch for blacktop paving operations in several areas along these state highways. Traffic will be one lane controlled by flaggers. Delays possible.

CARTER COUNTY

•Carol Malone Boulevard (KY 7/KY 1): An ongoing widening project on KY 7-KY 1 between I-64 and US 60 in downtown Grayson has shifted all traffic into a three-lane configuration – one lane each direction with a center turn lane – during construction, which will continue through the summer of 2022. The speed limit has been reduced to 25 miles per hour.

FLEMING COUNTY

•KY 111 at Grange City: Beginning Monday, Oct. 11, crews will repair an eroded embankment on KY 111 about a half mile north of the Grange City Covered Bridge (milepoint 3.3). Temporary traffic signals will be used to restrict KY 111 to one lane through Friday, Oct. 15, or until work is complete.

GREENUP COUNTY

•US 23-Main Street intersection at South Shore: Concrete paving continues through October on US 23 at the Main Street (KY 7) intersection, day and night. On Northbound US 23, by Saturday afternoon (Oct. 9), the right slow lane will reopen for thru and turning traffic, and the left fast lane and turn lanes will close for construction. Vehicles may access right turns (across the tracks) and left turns (downtown) from the right slow lane. On Southbound US 23, the right slow lane and turn lane remain closed, with thru and turning traffic access in the left fast lane.

•US 23 at Russell, and Kenwood Drive (KY 750) at US 23: US 23 northbound and southbound restricted to one lane – fast lanes (left lanes) closed, merge right between the Ironton-Russell bridge intersection and overpass construction zone (milepoints 1.8 to 2.4) – and KY 750 closed, for the Russell viaduct replacement project.

•KY 503 bridge replacement: Work is complete and traffic has returned to normal, now crossing the new bridge.

MASON COUNTY

•US 68 at Mays Lick: Major resurfacing, shoulder upgrades, new guardrail, and other improvements under way between the Mason-Fleming county line and mile marker 6 past Mays Lick. Expect lane closures, flagged traffic, delays.

•KY 10 east of Maysville: Paving operations, flagged traffic from KY 2513 (Second Street) in Maysville to the Mason-Lewis line.

NICHOLAS COUNTY

•KY 36 (Moorefield Road): Contractors are making road and safety improvements between Carlisle and KY 11 near Sharpsburg. Ditching, shoulder work, culvert extensions and replacements, guardrail enhancements, and pavement widening are ongoing. Take it slow as flagged traffic, lane closures, and rough pavement possible in work areas.

Motorists should also watch for crews performing daily maintenance activities such as pothole patching, ditching, mowing and other repairs on state highways in District 9’s service area of Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas and Rowan counties.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
