Dicent Named to Dominican National Team for Pan Am Games

MSU Athletics

Miguel Dicent, who just completed his freshman season with the Morehead State men's basketball program, has been named to the Dominican Republic National Team for the upcoming Pan American Games. The contests will be held July 21-25 in Toronto.

Group A includes the United States, Brazil, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Group B features the Dominican, Argentina, Canada and Mexico. The D.R. will hold a training camp in Santo Domingo before departing for Canada.

"Congratulations to Miguel on this terrific honor," Head Coach Sean Woods said. "It's great that he will be representing Morehead State men's basketball on an international stage. Miguel had a real solid freshman season, and we're certainly expecting big things from him in the future."

Dicent averaged 3.8 points in 2014-15 while knocking down 37 percent from the floor, 33 percent from three-point land and 71 percent from the free-throw line. The 6-foot-3 guard posted three double-figure scoring efforts and drilled the game-winner in MSU's home victory over Belmont.

"Miguel had to make some adjustments at the beginning of his first Division I season, but he became a regular member of our rotation in conference play," Woods said. "Miguel has a lot of talent and great feel for the game. We're looking forward to having him as an Eagle for three more years."

Dicent, who is originally from Santo Domingo, D.R., finished his prep career at the Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain. He played for the Dominican National Team in the 2011 U17 FIBA Americas Tournament. Dicent paced that squad in assists (3.8) and finished third in scoring (12.8).

Morehead State has finished Ohio Valley Conference play .500-or-better in eight consecutive seasons. The Eagles have also advanced to the league tournament semifinals in six of the last seven years. MSU closed out the 2014-15 campaign with 10 victories in its final 14 contests.
