The annual Morehead State University Winter Choral Showcase Concert will follow at 7:30. University Chorus, Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and the Black Gospel Ensemble will join Concert Choir for the evening concert.  Admission is free.

University Chorus will begin the concert with two selections, “Gamaya” by Paul Rudoi and “Sing Cantate Domino” by Mark Hayes.

Chamber Singers will continue with two madrigals of love, “Fair Phyllis” by John Farmer and “Il bianco e dolce cigno” by Jacques Arcadelt.  The men of the ensemble will honor Beethoven’s 250th anniversary with his “Wir haben ihn gesehen” from the oratorio Christ on the Mt. of Olives and also sing “David’s Lamention” by William Billings. Both compositions describe a dramatic moment from the Bible and both were written at approximately the same time, one in Vienna and the other in Boston.

Using the theme, “Wanting Memories”, Concert Choir will move through music history with compositions by the Renaissance composer, William Byrd; the Baroque composer, George Frideric Handel; the Romantic composer, Gabriel Faure; and the contemporary composer, Elaine Hagenberg.  The set will conclude with “Wanting Memories” by Ysaye Barnwell, made popular by the singing group, Sweet Honey in the Rock.  Dr. Eric Brown will join the choir to perform Faure’s “Libera me” from his Requiem.

Jazz Vocal Ensemble will follow with Cole Porter’s “I Concentrate on You” arranged by Jaime Dyer, Lerner and Loewe’s “Almost Like Being in Love” arranged by Darmon Meader, and Michael Trotter. Jr’s “Love Like There’s No Tomorrow” arranged by Roosevelt Escalante.

The concert will conclude with the Black Gospel Ensemble. They will sing “God Is Here” by Houghton and Munizzi, “Jesus Will” by James Cleveland, and “Grateful People” by Anthony Brown.
