Chelsea McManaway Named OVC Pitcher of the Week

MSU Athletics

After throwing shutouts against Akron and Oakland, junior Chelsea McManaway has been named OVC Pitcher of the Week.

It marks the second time this season that she has received the honor.

"Chelsea threw really solid all weekend long, she was really in the zone. She didn't allow a walk until her final inning of the weekend, so she went 14 innings with only walking one batter. That's probably the most impressive stat," said head coach David Williams. "When you get pitching performances like the ones she gave us this weekend, you can be successful."

McManaway recorded shutout victories in both of her starts. She threw 14 scoreless innings, while striking out 13 batters and walking just one.

In the win over Oakland, she allowed just five hits and a walk, while striking out five. In the win over Akron, she allowed three hits, no walks, and struck out eight.

With seven shutouts, she has already set the school record for shutouts in a season. The previous record was six, set by Susan Pape in 1998 and Alex Gjevre in 2010.

On the season, she is 8-3 with a 0.62 ERA. She has struck out 107 batters, while walking 34.

She ranks first in the OVC with seven shutouts and her 107 strikeouts rank second.

The Eagles, who are on a season-high seven-game winning streak, open conference play next weekend with doubleheaders at Austin Peay on Saturday and Murray State on Sunday.
