Celebrate Kentucky Writers’ Day Across Kentucky

The Odyssey Online

The Kentucky Writers’ Day Celebration is May 1, and for Kentuckians who can’t travel to Frankfort for the celebration, the Kentucky Arts Council provides a planning guide for recognizing Writers’ Day in their own communities.

The guide is downloadable from the arts council website and is full of helpful ideas about how schools, libraries, businesses, colleges and universities, and other organizations can celebrate Writers’ Day locally.

“We want Writers’ Day to be a celebration accessible to all Kentuckians,” said Lydia Bailey Brown, arts council executive director. “If you can’t be with us in Frankfort, this planning guide is a wonderful tool to help personalize what the written word means in your own communities.”

Kentucky Writers’ Day begins at 10 a.m. at the Old State Capitol, 300 W. Broadway St. in Frankfort, and will include the installation of the 2017-2018 Kentucky Poet Laureate as well as readings by past poets laureate. There will be a reception at 11 a.m.

Kentucky Writers’ Day is open to the public.

For more information on Kentucky Writers’ Day or to let the arts council know about Writers’ Day activities across the state, contact Tamara Coffey, arts council individual artist director, at 502-892-3121, or tamara.coffey@ky.gov.
