Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) opened the doors to its Nursing Program recently to allow prospective students and community members a glimpse inside the program.

The Nursing Program began at the former Prestonsburg Community College (PCC) and graduated their first class in 1974 and has continued to graduate high demand well trained students since.  Several program graduates have made the Nursing program at BSCTC their home as they returned to become instructors.

Attendees to the Nursing Program Open House which included potential students, parents, and community members gained valuable program information, talked with current students, faculty, staff and took a tour of the nursing lab.

Amber Robinson, a prospective student, drove from Martin County to attend the open house.

“I thought the Nursing program may be something I was interested in and I wanted to come to the Open House to get an inside look and tour the program,” said Robinson.

The Nursing Program at BSCTC will now become an Academic Career Mobility Program, which will streamline the curriculum and provide students multiple exit points and licensure opportunities for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and the Registered Nurse (ADN) program.  The new curriculum for this program will start in August 2019.
