Bridge Repair, Painting starts on KY 1274 bridge at Rowan-Menifee Line

newstalkkgvo.com

A $1.2 million project to upgrade and paint three bridges in Carter and Rowan counties will start this month.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 6, repair crews are replacing joints and performing other work on the KY 1274 bridge over the Licking River at the Rowan-Menifee county line (milepoint 0). The work will reduce the bridge to one-lane for at least the next two weeks, with temporary signals controlling traffic across the bridge in both directions. Motorists should expect delays. Message boards will be used to warn travelers.

The work is part of a project that includes painting of the KY 1274 bridge’s steel beams, and of the steel substructure of two Carter County bridges: the KY 7 bridge over the Grayson Lake dam spillway (milepoint 3.9) and the KY 7 bridge over Clifty Creek (milepoint 1.7). Painting is expected to take place April through August, and will also reduce bridges to one lane for about a month each. Specific schedules will be announced.

The Transportation Cabinet awarded a $1,212,840 low-bid contract to North Star Painting Company Inc. of Youngstown, Ohio, to complete the project.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
