Interstate motorists should watch for lane closures along 10 miles of I-64 in Bath County during the next several months for a $1.2 million bridge painting project.
Beginning Saturday, March 3, contractors will close one lane of I-64 westbound across the I-64 bridge that spans Slate Creek at mile marker 118 while crews paint the steel beams underneath.
Painting will progress along westbound I-64 to bridges over Kendall Springs Road and Slate Creek at mile marker 120 and bridges over the Licking River at mile marker 129. Then, contractors will paint the same bridges on the eastbound side of the interstate.
Motorists should expect intermittent one-lane traffic across bridges that are being painted. Lane closures could remain in place 24-hours-a-day at times.
The project is being done under a $1,218,600 low-bid contract awarded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to North Star Painting Company Inc. The project has a July 31 completion date.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
