Brent Spence Bridge Repairs Needed

Bridge Hunter

The U.S. transportation system has not caught up to the 21st Century and the Brent Spence Bridge between Kentucky and Ohio is a good example.

That’s what Federal Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx told the Transportation Research Board during its annual meeting in Washington on Monday (Jan. 12).

Foxx says the 52-year-old span linking Covington and Cincinnati has needed replacement for more than a decade.

“In fact, in 2011, the Spence Bridge was closed for several days for emergency repairs and yet four years later we’re no closer to finding the funding for it.” –Anthony Foxx

Foxx says the U.S. needs a new, 30-year vision for transportation that accommodates new technologies and shifts in population.
