Bluegrass Pipeline Opposition Rally Planned

Investor Place

Some Kentucky landowners and members of the organization MoveOn.org plan a Wednesday (August 7) afternoon rally in Frankfort to express their opposition to the proposed Bluegrass Pipeline. Spokeswoman CorliaLogsdon says they’ll gather at 3 o’clock at the State Capitol to deliver to Governor Beshear petitions containing the signatures of more than two-thousand people who want the project stopped. Logsdon says the pipeline would carry natural gas liquids through the country’s heartland and pose a threat to public safety.

“It’s not a gas line per se, it is a natural gas liquids line which would transport up to four hundred thousand barrels of fracked by-products through Kentucky each day and it would be under high pressure. The company has some safety issues. They own the plant that recently exploded in Geismar, Louisiana.”–CorliaLogsdon

Logsdon says one of the energy firms proposing the project, the Williams Companies, has a history of other environmental problems. Williams and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners want to lay the pipeline through Kentucky and several other states to the Gulf of Mexico.
