Barnette, Lindberg win MSPR student awards

Morehead State University

Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY, 90.3FM) had announced the recipients of two station leadership awards.

Arlo Barnette is the recipient of the 2018 MSPR/CAB Student Leadership Award while Jacob Lindberg is the recipient of the 2018 MSPR Outstanding Student Award.

Barnette, an Owingsville senior, is an honors student studying English and Spanish. He has worked at MSPR since 2013 as a news reporter and anchor, Morning Edition host and host/producer of Earshot during Audio Visions. Barnette also has served as a translator and music researcher at Radio Valentín Letelier in Valparaíso, Chile.

Lindberg, a Morehead junior, is a convergent media major. He has worked at MSPR since 2015, serving as a news reporter and anchor, Morning Edition host and host/producer of Radio Free Morehead during Audio Visions. Lindberg also is the editor of The Trail Blazer, MSU's online student newspaper.

“I congratulate both Arlo (Barnette) and Jacob (Lindberg) on their success and achievements. They are wonderful examples of the dedication and integrity our students show every day at WMKY,” said Paul Hitchcock MSPR general manager.

“WMKY offers a variety of hands-on opportunities in a professional and educational environment. We value the hard work by our student staff and their commitment to our listeners,” added Hitchcock.

MSPR relies on student work-studies, interns and volunteers in a variety of roles. Throughout the year, an average of 20 students perform a variety of important roles at the station including news, sports and feature reporting, program hosting and engineering, production recording and editing.

Serving more than 20 counties throughout eastern Kentucky, as well as parts of Ohio and West Virginia, Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY) broadcasts at 90.3FM from MSU’s and online at www.wmky.org.
